The ambiance was terrific, comfortable chairs, roaring fire, great musician and a waiter, Edwin, who was over the top service and customer oriented - as was the manager of the restaurant/bar, Collin. First, our experience in the restaurant/bar was second to none.
We stopped to have a drink and to walk the property on our own to see if this might be a good location for a board meeting for an organization I’m involved with. Admittedly, I’m a little bit of a hotel snob and the hotel did not disappoint! Wow- the hotel itself is GORGEOUS - mountain modern style with a real comfortable feel to it all. I’ve been anxious for the Montage - Big Sky to open as the hotel brand has such a stellar reputation. Other than that, this is a beautiful resort with potential, that should be ashamed of itself for charging like a five star and delivering much less. I have stayed at very fine hotels and resorts around the world never experienced the lack of training of staff. What makes this worse was everyone there had similar experiences and complaints. The ski shop/ storage was so unorganized it took almost a half hour to get our equipment. From the restaurants, where not ever were we asked about food allergies, which my son has, when we told the waiter, he had us write down pine nuts as he had never heard of them. In general the greatest shortcomings is the lack of training of the staff. From checking in where the staff member needed assistance finding our room, to no one answering the phone for more than 40 minutes of repeated calling and being disconnected after about ten rings.
That being said, when you promote your resort as a five star property, and are charging $2000/day you expect much more than we experienced. I understand this hotel has only been open about three months and with Covid, it has been a challenge to most business. I recently returned from Montage, Big Sky.
